As pretty well everyone must know by now the Moseley Folk Festival is only four days away.
That means that by Sunday Moseley will have gone Ukulele crazy. This is an official medical condition.
Not only are the Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain headlining on the Sunday but our friends at SCUPA are organising a workshop. We say our friends but to be honest we’ve only met two of them, but they were very friendly. We reckon their workshop will be equally friendly.
On the hand if you think that you are unable to wait until the weekend we have our usual Thursday night meeting at Pat Kav’s on Thursday, at 8:00pm, upstairs. Probably the best way to start the festival.
Not only will this be an excellent opportunity for you to keep your Ukulele hand in before the weekend but we have bongos.
Yes, that’s right. Recognising the need to for percussion we’ve got our own pair of bongos, and a tambourine. This is truly uncharted territory.
So, see you on Thursday.
Oh, it’s also worth pointing out that we do have a Facebook group. If you join it you will get to hear news which is strangely reminiscent of everything that we already put on here.
I’ve taken on board some comments about the songbook and made some changes.
Firstly I have altered the contents so it now has page numbers for songs rather than just random numbers. The numbers didn’t tell us anything other than how many songs there were in the book. That information isn’t very useful .
I’ve been through all of the songs again and, I think, made sure that all the chords that are in songs are at the top of the page. I’ve also added all of the introductions to songs as well. Hopefully this will make starting a bit easier.
This does mean that you might need to print it out yet again but I reckon that’s worth it to have the most cutting edge version of songs.
That means the only thing I’ve got to do now is remind you that the last meeting of August is on Thursday.
As always, upstairs at Patrick Kavangh’s at 8:00pm.
This will be the last but one meeting before the Moseley Folk Festival. That isn’t really in anyway relevant to anything but I like to throw it in.
This is a week of almost constant Moselele news.
It was crazy enough finally getting a poster but now we’ve got a Facebook group as well.
Theoretically this will make people think there is some sort of coherent strategy for developing Moselele into a force of unparalleled power.
It’s also a handy place for people to have discussions about things.
This is probably the most exciting Moselele news ever.
We had a fantastic response to the poster competition. We had thirteen entries with some people motivated to enter more than once.
We really appreciate the time and effort that people put into this and you can see all of the entries here.
We are more than pleased to announce that the winner is Jim who produced Guitar George for us.
We’re also pleased to announce that the prize is a bit better than we’d originally planned.
Jim will soon be the owner of a Kala Soprano Ukulele bundle.
Well done Jim and thank you everyone for all of your help.
Just to remind the whole world that the Poster Competition is careering towards a final and graphic finale on Sunday.
We’ve had quite a few entries and we’re very excited about judging them.
Of course nothing has been decided and there is still time for one last go.
(You can win a ukulele)
It’s the Moseley Festival.
The single most exciting thing with festival in the title that happens in Moseley on an annual basis. Except, possibly, the Folk Festival or even the Jazz Festival.
We have a lot of festivals. That’s no bad thing.
The Moseley Festival is the only one that has a Ukulele component (except the Folk Festival which has the Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain this year).
The Moseley Festival is the only festival that is going on this week.
As a special Festival event we’ve got an extra Moselele on Thursday night (the 8th), again upstairs at PKs at 8 O’clock.
You’re obviously wondering what will make this one different, what is so special about a Moselele in the middle of the Moseley Festival? Well the main difference is that it is on the second Thursday of the month rather than the third Thursday of the month.
That’s about it really.
So we very much look forward to seeing you on Thursday.
This is probably the most exciting thing we’ve ever done . We’re going to have a competition.
There is only so far you can get by hoping people stumble across a web site so we need posters. Especially as there is a shop that sells Ukuleles bang in the middle of Moseley. Just think what would happen if we put posters up in there?
Exactly.
I have effectively no graphic design skills what so ever. Which means we are going to have a competition.
If you design us a poster AND it is good AND we like it then we will give you a Ukulele. Not a crap one with a picture of a tree on it but something like a Kala Soprano.
All you need to do is try and come up with something that is quite amusing, can be printed out on A3 paper and can be customised to put different dates and stuff on. If you can, try and use our logo. If you can come up with a better logo then that would be even better. This one was thrown together in an afternoon and I don’t really like it that much.
Entries can be emailed to competition@moselele.co.uk
The closing date for the competition is the 25th July.
All entries will be judged in some sort of democratic way that I haven’t really thought through yet.
The actual prize will depend on what we can get at the time. Though it will be good so it’s worth having a go.
Thanks and good luck.
When I said we wouldn’t add any more songs it was a lie.
We’ve added more songs in anticipation of our exciting next meeting on the 1st July (this Thursday). It’s all about getting ready for the Moseley Festival.
As it is the Festival we thought that it would be interestingly irrelevant to add Everyday by Buddy Holly
..and You Shook Me All Night Long by AC/DC
Neither of which have anything to do with each other or festivals. They are, of course in the Songbook. I’ve also got rid of some of the more obvious errors from the song book.
You might also have noticed in B13 Magazine that we are listed for Wednesday the 8th. We prefer to think this is some sort of innocent mistake rather than a blatant lie. We’ve got upstairs at Kavanagh’s booked for Thursday the 8th. Don’t turn up a day early or we won’t be there. This does mean that both meetings in July will be on consecutive weeks.
That’s not a problem is it?
Yes, that’s right.
We’ve got Kavanagh’s booked for this Thursday.
That’s the 17th June, from 8:00pm, upstairs. Yes, we’ve even got proper listings now as well.
There aren’t any new songs, so lot’s of chance to work on what we’ve got, and that’s a lot.
See you on Thursday.
