Yaaay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This time, we meet another one of Moselele&#8217;s many, many Daves. Yep &#8211; if you&#8217;ve ever wondered what an impulse buy in Bethnel Green might lead to, then wonder no more. It&#8217;s Dave D!   <\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\" id=\"block-ea8bbdc9-9b49-4f5a-9a50-508d70ff86f4\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"block-9b473800-b2e9-4c62-8877-76288f3d31a1\"><strong>1) Tell us how you started playing the ukulele. (How long ago? Did you play other instruments before?)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"block-22452c69-8efb-4e81-9a36-af2e46368e20\">I bought a uke on a whim in Dukes of Uke in Bethnal Green in 2013. It was \u00a315 and plastic. The man behind the counter showed me how effortless music making was going to be by demonstrating the C and G chords there and then. Plus it was purple. Nuff said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"block-22f904b4-5223-4b02-923a-e1e327a126a5\"><strong>2) What uke(s) do you play? (Have you made any adjustments\/personalised it? Do you use a plectrum?)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"block-51dc912b-b78b-46b4-b449-a51210d52013\">I have ditched the purple job. (<em>Phew &#8211;Ed<\/em>) Having to retune before getting to the end of Common People did for me. I now have the soprano Bambookulele in matching gigbag donated by Daz. I have added living water strings which make a huge difference to sound quality except on Snowselele night when I could replace them with string for all the difference it would make.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"block-05bcd675-64c1-48d3-8d38-6d6be6437d76\"><strong>3) Do you remember your first Moselele? (What prompted you to come along? What were your first impressions?)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"block-3ee8bce1-4c91-47fc-beb1-c9f99c10a5b0\">I do remember \u2013 in the back room in the Prince before we were rehoused in the sauna shack\/cantina. I\u2019d heard about it via my daughter who worked behind the bar at the Prince. I sat next to Phil and John who were reassuringly friendly and er\u2026 old. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"block-3ee8bce1-4c91-47fc-beb1-c9f99c10a5b0\">I was most struck by the playlist. (The peak of my interest in music was probably the 70s\/late 60s). <a href=\"https:\/\/moselele.co.uk\/individual_songs\/A_Little_Respect.pdf\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/moselele.co.uk\/individual_songs\/A_Little_Respect.pdf\">A Little Respect<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/moselele.co.uk\/individual_songs\/Mr_Brightside.pdf\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/moselele.co.uk\/individual_songs\/Mr_Brightside.pdf\">Mr Brightside<\/a> broke new ground for me. At the interval I talked to several people including <a href=\"https:\/\/www.moselele.co.uk\/?p=922\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"922\">Conor C<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.moselele.co.uk\/?p=731\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"731\">Ian E<\/a> who both gave me the message that crap playing was no handicap and that if I actually wanted to improve at some point I should participate in some of the live gigs to terrify me into practising seriously.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>4) What keeps you coming back to Moselele?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"block-495bd33a-b098-436b-b5ce-9b32820fa7c8\">My bicycle. Actually that is part of the pleasure \u2013 cycling downhill to the Prince for a night I know I will enjoy. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"block-495bd33a-b098-436b-b5ce-9b32820fa7c8\">The main attraction is the singing loudly and in a group but I also like mixing with such an eclectic bunch. My book group (by way of comparison) has an age range from 71 to 78.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"block-93f9ac9d-8434-47b7-a2e9-ac699b52b604\"><strong>5) What\u2019s your favourite Moselele song?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"block-a075ac3d-a7b4-4696-9c06-ed9e672ff7a9\">Either <a href=\"https:\/\/moselele.co.uk\/individual_songs\/Thats_Not_My_Name.pdf\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/moselele.co.uk\/individual_songs\/Thats_Not_My_Name.pdf\">That\u2019s Not my Name<\/a> because I like the multi-part singing and I can\u2019t imagine any other situation where I wouldn\u2019t feel ridiculous singing this song, or <a href=\"https:\/\/moselele.co.uk\/individual_songs\/Wish_You_Were_Here.pdf\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/moselele.co.uk\/individual_songs\/Wish_You_Were_Here.pdf\">Wish You Were Here<\/a> because I couldn\u2019t have imagined me still singing this song nearly fifty years after I first listened to it. I thought it was pretentious tosh in 1975, but then I couldn\u2019t play it on a ukulele\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.moselele.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/daveD.jpg\" alt=\"Dave D\" class=\"wp-image-32185\" width=\"280\" height=\"180\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"block-ccd31fa7-7f88-4b05-8565-554afb5fdeb6\"><strong>6) What\u2019s your usual Moselele tipple?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"block-1f40fc8c-7692-44b6-80ea-55190ac777ae\">Timothy Taylor Landlord (two, usually)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"block-e58a0af2-1f51-43d8-b22c-670d6a434f06\"><strong>7) Do you practise at home?
